For me my martial arts are more than what I do. They are more than who I am. I guess being an old soldier and the son of a marine my beliefs and view points are strongly influenced and intertwined between the 2. Lets not forget that my family is an old Southern family, influenced deeply by our Southern and Native American roots and upbringing.

All of this combined has made me the man I am. I guess my biggest influence was my mother. Till the day of her death she refused to permit my… Continue

Got Manipulated

I have this one very manipulative student. At times he's very stubborn and non-cooperative, and at other times he gushes about how I'm the "best master in the world." (I always tell him not to call me that).

He finally talked me into playing table tennis at his apartment complex. He loaned me a paddle and while playing, I accidentally dinged the edge of the paddle on the table. Just a tiny dent. He got upset and said the paddles cost $100 each, so I agreed to compensate him. He… Continue

Thoughts on training

I am not totally new to martial arts but I recently got back into them after being out for almost 20 years.  A year ago I started taking Krav Maga at a shool accredited by Krav Maga Worldwide and am now a yellow belt.  This has spiked my interest and now take Hapkido and Contemporary Jeet Kune Do.  Krav, being a hard style is very interesting to me but I became interested in Hapkido because my Krav instructer had some background in it.  I recently started taking Hapkido and initially thought…

At War

There are times in a man's life when he needs to declare war. War against himself, his life and his path. By defeating and overcoming our problems we (hopefully) grow, evolve and prosper. But only if we go at it full on, to declare war as it may be.

Today I realized that in my almost 40 years (37 1/4), though I have loved. I have never known love (being loved). I have survived but never thrived. I have lived as a positive person, but never a successful person. Yes people…

Saint Morons Day!!!

I just knew that today of all days that there would be a problem at the bar. After today I will be looking for myself on YouTube.

Had to remove a guy from the bar and he like everyone thinks they can do whatever they want and that they know better than us.

Once I asked the guy to leave and he refused to comply promptly, he puts me in the position to remove him from the building. He refuses to put his drink down and then resits my attempt to escort him from the… Continue

martial info

Over a vast many years I have collected a lot of Hapkido and martial arts info, much of what I can no longer seem to find online anymore. To me it is important to learn and share as much info as I possibly can. I am sure to give credit where it is due. I always properly reference and acknowledge authors of articles. Even so many sites do not permit my posting of this info.

Once I get the rest of my martial arts documents from my sisters place in North Carolina I will have info I… Continue

Prayers for Japan

It is easy to let the pain and suffering of others go quickly by, especially when it happens continents away.

I would like to take a moment to put my thoughts and prayers out there for the people of Japan and or brothers and sisters in their martial arts community. May god be with you and may the difficult times quickly fade into memory as you begin the daunting task of rebuilding and reliving!

Advice from experience!

I just wanted to jot down some advice that my personal experience has taught me over the years from my military, law enforcement, bouncing and teaching.

Yes, strength does play a role in all martial arts. Be it leg, back, arm or whatever. You have to have the strength in the body parts that your art focuses on. Like in Hapkido, hand, wrist and forearm strength are a must, though it is developed through your training.

Above all, even over muscle, attitude and…

Dannggg (As Joe Dirt would say), I'm on a roll.

Lately I have had a lot of inquiry come to my mind. I have also noticed that the majority of people who are a member of this site kinda just lurk in the background for whatever reason. C'mon people, we can't bite through the computer!
